My great grand father was in the klan. He was poor didn’t know how to read so was indoctrinated into it. He was a carpenter so would make the crosses. He told me their group had heard of a man in town who had molested his kids and beat his wife. One night my GGF and a group of men went to this mans home and took him. They brought him to the woods where they proceeded to beat him then they decided to tie him up and castrated him. My GGF said the men their didn’t know how to cut the balls out without killing him. My GGF new how to do it from doing pigs and horses so he cut them out. He got out of the Klan when the local branch wanted to start raiding the black communities during the civil rights movement.

His SIL or my Grand father was also in it in the 50s-70s he joined cause he was a straight up racist he hated black people and was also not a good person(I severed contact with him when I was a teen). He tried to bring my dad into when he was a child. My dad told me he remembers helping his granddad make the crosses he was maybe 5-6 and would just be playing with scraps of wood. It ended with my father. When he got older and realized what it was he refused to be a part of it.

I often feel conflicted about my GGF cause I never knew him as the man my dad tells me about. I remember a man who was kind to everyone and was a joker who used to take me everywhere when I was a kid but I acknowledge what he did and I’ll bear that shame forever.

This isn’t from LA. This was taken in Louisville, Kentucky. I saw her with this sign at a protest downtown in early June.

Edit: Look at the marble figure behind her sign. That’s a statue of Louis XVI which is at the corner of Jefferson and 6th in downtown Louisville.
