I cannot stand the "few bad apples" excuse. Which comedian recently said that bad apples aren't tolerated in other essential professions, like airline pilot?

Several countries have recently banned Pakistani Airlines because some of their pilots might have forged credentials. Imagine if that level of scrutiny were applied to police? I say it's time We the People insist on it!

This isn't really a good comeback, because you don't realize that it also puts the onus of hypocrisy on you. By using their own argument against them, it means that you tacitly acknowledge the legitimacy of the argument. You can't use someone's bad argument against them, and then claim that it's a bad argument that shouldn't be used.

Unless this was part of an ongoing conversation, that reply wasn’t really even addressing the OP. No talk of police in the first post, just an assumption that that person might make that “few bad apples” argument if prompted. No murder by words here, they were barely on topic.

To be fair the first commenter probably would say something like that, but still, second comment is responding to something that wasn’t said.
