It all boils down to trust. He doesn't trust anyone in the intelligence community at all. But with Putin, he has total trust as he trusts that Dad Vlad is keeping the kompromat safe and secure from prying eyes.
Trump accused that 75 year old guy the cops shoved to the ground a few weeks back of being an "antifa agitator" and having a "scanner" which was going to be used to interrupt police communications. He saw a story by a Russian reporter on OAN and that was good enough for him to tweet it.
