The only reason they're saying this now is because of this video put out yesterday by prominent players. They saw players and fans about to wholeheartedly turn on the league right and no easy resolution before the upcoming season.
The NFL is no different than any other corporation voicing their alliegence with BLM (possible exception Ben and Jerry's, oddly enough).
It means little. A statement to the media is free, and about the absolute least they can do to protect next season's profits.
