The Austin Powers movies are pretty much the perfect comedies to me. According to Mike Meyers he actually wrote the first movies script in just 3 weeks, and ~30% of the film was improv! Source

Totally remember clocking that at the time!
There's an episode of the x files with like a haunted elevator (or something like that) that uses the footage from Speed.
I guess sometimes it's less expensive to buy the rights than have a design team create from scratch.
