Figure this will be buried but wanted to share! My family does a dessert competition every year at Thanksgiving and it has gotten very (very) competitive... I saw this cake posted mid 2019 and decided I would try to make it using just the picture as inspiration and filling the gaps with my imagination. I am not a chef or a baker but gave it my best effort. I ended up winning first place in every category! (taste, originality, presentation) - and have earned bragging rights for the year lol.
My family and I are Indian so I swung for the fences to guarantee victory. I made a saffron cardamom cake with ras malai (rose flavored) icing. Did very well with the aunties and uncles. I made the bird out of Rice Krispie treats and covered it with fondant. I also made the remainder of the peacock with fondant. The fondant actually tasted okay and was easy to take off of the cupcakes.
I am pretty proud of it and owe the original bakers Malizzi Cakes and Pastries for the inspiration :) turned out ok!

Nadia made this in her finale! ...I think her name was Nadia.
She has a show now teaching cooking. I’ve tried some of her recipes and they’re really good.
