Oh man, I didn't notice the men in there at first so my sense of scale was way off. That's awesome. I'll have to ask my pops if he's ever stayed in one, he's from there.

It amazes me how they manage to make an unbearably hot, sandy nightmare into something so relaxing.

I recall design studies of these tents from Architecture. If I recall correctly they are usually made from a loosely woven goat hair and wool. They are loose enough to allow smoke and the day's heat to escape while it turns the harsh desert daylight to a subtle star light. As it rains though the natural fibers swell enough to deflect the rare desert rain events. Most people don't get the chance to appreciate the ingenuity of shelters like these that have been honed over generations to adapt to specific climate and uses.
