By waiting until our orbits aligned perfectly, I was able to get this crystal clear shot of Mars from my backyard. [OC]

For a look at my adventures photographing universe, check me out on Instagram @thevastreaches.

This photo shows Mars enveloped in a planet-wide dust storm. Even still, surface details can be clearly seen, including the southern polar ice cap. You can also make out the thin, blue atmospheric haze along the edges.

Earth will approach Mars again in October. This is called “opposition” and is the next opportunity to get a fresh look at the details. Stay tuned!

Even though it was obscured by a dust storm, what area of Mars are we looking at here?

Edit: seems to be near the Tharsis Bulge which means the biggest volcano we know of is hiding in this image, neat!

If you were to have looked through the telescope instead of taking the picture , would mars still look like this ? (It’s obvious I’ve never used a telescope lol but I’m still working towards getting one !)

Second question , when you said this was a stack of a thousand images , what is it and why do you need to do it ?
