My parents weren't overly strict but the guilt trips were relentless. I walked on eggshells with my parents, and then dated/married the same crap.
What actually hurts the worst is that my younger siblings didn't have that type of experience with our parents. They can joke around and truly enjoy each other's company. I'm 42 and have a permanent guard up around my parents. I am careful about what I say because it will be used against me at a later date.

Even when I'm doing nothing wrong or just sitting around when the door suddenly opens my reflex action is to appear busy
