The first time I experienced one in person was in o'Neill Nebraska where they have a massive greenhouse.
It is loud enough that I got in the car at 230sm to go see what the heck it was. The locals said it hasn't hailed there in the seven years after they installed it and it hails once a year pretty much everywhere in the midwest United states.
Edit 2 to add that science has not found any data to support that this actually works. I do not know the technicals or data at all so can not speak scientifically.
