Similar to other productions that have shut down, there’s no word on when filming may once again resume. The plan was originally to halt production for just a couple of weeks. However, unlike other projects, ‘The Batman’ may not necessarily need to push back its release date. The movie is currently scheduled to hit theaters in June 2021, kicking off next year’s summer blockbuster season. Naturally, that release date was chosen more for marketing reasons than purely for the scheduling needs of production and post-production, so as long as filming can resume sometime in the somewhat near future, the release schedule may remain unchanged.

However, another factor that must be considered is the jumble of films that have similarly been delayed. According to Movie Insider, Warner Bros. has 19 other films currently in development and they may decide to re-organize their entire release schedule depending on the fluidity of the situation and whatever terms the shut-down conditions dictate.

2021 is gonna be brutal for movies. We’re gonna get the backlog of 2020 blockbusters & whatever indie movies survive this period. I don’t think it will be many.

2021 is a gonna be a weird year. Everything that was in production right now must be either shut down or in serious flux. With the way the industry schedules itself, a lot of projects aren't going to happen.

I think a superhero blockbuster has the best chance of still coming to theaters too.

EDIT: Might be more 2022 since 2021 can at least get all the 2020 releases that have been delayed.

Could it be possible the movie will be released in 2022 instead of 2021? If that happened, it would then be exactly 10 years since the Nolan trilogy ended.
