My dog Buddy was a big shepherd lab, but looked all shepherd. He was afraid of the moon, lamp posts, hot air balloons...really anything taller than him. He ate dust pans, was super friendly, and secretly liked going to the groomer even though he cried every time we dropped him off. Essentially, the biggest suck on the planet.
We were walking through the woods and some shady looking guys in hoodies were on the same path, coming towards us. As we got closer they started whispering and one put his hand in his pocket. The woods were too thick to run through, I was stuck. Buddy sandwiched himself between me and the guys, bristled, and growled so loud it kind of scared me. He snapped at their legs as a threat when they got too close. They took off running, and a knife fell out of his pocket.
I was almost mugged, potentially stabbed, and my big baby of a dog saved me. Rest in peace Bud, I'll never forget what you did for me.
