My nephew was living out of his car, bumming gas money and borrowing showers and clothes washer from us. I was working with the electrical union (IBEW) at the time and talked to the guy running the apprenticeship program and managed to line up a job for him and get him in the program. All he had to do was show up, pee in a cup and sign the books.
When I approached him with the deal, the little shit told me that he would never work construction, that was for losers who did not finish school. This was particularly offensive considering I am an electrician, so was his daddy.
We cut him off, a few months later he ends up in jail, and things never got better for him. You just can't help people who won't help themselves.
