So Wilhelm II. basically said to German troops leaving for China to defeat the Boxer Rebellion, to ravage the country like the Huns did in Europe, so that the Chinese will always be in fear of the Germans. Obviously the international press used that against Germany.

Didnt the pickel on the haube serve a practical function? I vaguely remember it being meant to block downward sword strikes to the head.

May be wrong here tho
