Mat K said, in his q&a with mod shauny, that he believes the game won't do anything groundbreaking or unconventional ever again. OSRS copied RS3's path to short term success by dumping hours of skilling drops into minutes of PvM. This is a quite obvious imbalance between the two parts of the game, imagine if you could only use skills like smithing to obtain the best PvM gear.

The answer is so simple that it balances itself. Remove all resource drops from PvM and then add new unique drops that enable gathering those resources faster. For example a rare shiny fishing lure from kraken that would let you catch anglerfish faster. To combat bots you could make the gathering tool tradeable, but then once activated for the player it becomes untradeable, so that its a big investment and item sink. You could also dramatically scale up the gathering rate with the players skills, which would weed out the short term bots and reward players for their dedication.

At first glance you would think that this would completely devalue PvM yet it would actually breath new life into every boss. A blowpipe could be worth 50m if zulrah only dropped its uniques, bringing back the excitement of hoping for a rare drop instead of a mindless grind where every kill is the same. Question, which boss would be the best to farm? Well it would constantly change because the profit isn't based on how many alchables you get, now it would be on the value of the uniques which can always change. If too many people farm zulrah then another boss would be more profitable. Of course skilling would be worth so much more too, resulting in a steady profit that would make it worth doing instead of only as a quest or diary requirement. Then think about PvP, why risk all the gear you're wearing to kill a guy for 200k when vorkath is guaranteed to drop 200k in 2 minutes time? PvP would be revived too if bossing wasn't guaranteed millions an hour. Then think about noobs, if endgame bosses supply every resource in the game then what can early to mid game players do to make money other than beg?

PvM, skilling, boss drop tables, inflation, it all would just balance itself. Because that's how it used to be.
