Richard Nixon’s administration made it so everyone in the US who needs dialysis gets it, regardless of income. Before then, you had to pay out of pocket. I heard it was ten grand for fistula implantation and first dialysis session, then four grand for each session after that. Most dialysis patients need it three times a week; people simply died.

It should be the same with insulin. Most people on dialysis are there due to kidney disease due to diabetes. Educate people about nutrition, save on insulin and dialysis. Gonna pay for dialysis? Why tf not insulin?

The trump administration is pushing at home dialysis to save money. Sounds great but it sucks for the patient, few could manage it and it has higher infection rates.

I’ll stop now but as I’m sure you can imagine, I could go on...

Pfft. I had a buddy who built a bong out of some rubber bands, a left over nacho Bell grande tray and the straw from my Baja blast.

Translated from the Dutch Wikipedia :

Kolff retired in 1997, 86 years old. His wife, Janke Huidekoper, divorced him after 62 years of marriage, because she thought she had always came second. He moved into a care home, furnished his room as an office, and went back to work. In 2005 the dyslexic Kolff, almost blind and completely deaf, finally stopped working

The man was such a workaholic he apparently didn't even let retirement or his 60+ years marriage stop him.
