The ambulance is staffed by a specialist crew designed to help you get quickly (thanks to the sirens) and safely to the hospital when you need it. You call the same number for them that you do for the fire department or a police car. The idea that any of those would give you a bill to pay is reprehensible.

If an arsonist sets a building on fire, all three are needed. The fire department to put the fire out, the police to arrest the arsonist, and the ambulance to help those injured by the fire. How is it justifiable that any of those would present you with a bill?

It's crazy how deeply conditioned against decent healthcare some Americans are. Like wouldn't it be nice to get an Express lift to a hospital if you're about to die? Or is that too communist?

I used to be a nurse, and actually had an argument with an EMT about delivering an elderly mentally ill patient on my hall to the hospital. He wanted to say she wasn’t sick enough to deserve an ambulance. Lady had a rectal bleed, was on enough blood thinners to be worrisome, and both the doc and husband needed her transported. Private car transport was not an option due to her physical and mental health issues.

Literally got in a screaming match with him after he made the newer nurse cry, and threatened to call and tell emergency services he was refusing a pickup.

When your fucking EMTs believe this shit, it’s all over.
