Funnily enough this may seem the norm now, but this was before the summer of death which led to strong bike protection laws in the Netherlands, which led to the bike becoming the transportation mode of choice over the car, unlike in the rest of Europe where cyclists were pushed to the curb as cars took prominence. This picture would have been unsurprising if it was anywhere in Europe in the 50s and 60s, and all of Europe could have been a cycling utopia if the same approach had been taken everywhere in the 70s.
