Now is the time to understand more,so that we fear less.” Marie Curie (Born in Warsaw Poland 1867) was a woman so aggressively impressive that it boggles the mind. Her list of accomplishments would have been legendary had she stopped half way, but she kept going. Not only was she the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, but she became the first person to win two of them, and still the only person to win two in two different fields; chemistry and physics. She discovered radioactivity (in fact she coined the term), two new elements Polonium (named after Poland) and Radium, and evening developed mobile radiography units to provide x-rays during World War 1. She went on to die from exposure to radiation and became entombed in the Pantheon in Paris among other legends of France. I have dedicated this effort of mine to honor her life and accomplishments. My painting process involved the usage of several different photos. One of the body, a separate photo of the head, and a third photo of someone else to help me “age” the head I was using. The color has been invented entirely by me. Which scientist should I celebrate next?
