My mother did this a lot. Tasted pretty bad. Didn't really stop the behaviour though.

My mom did this with my older brother, except instead he decided to really show it to her that this wasn't effective he took the bar of soap, took a big ass bite out of it and started chewing it while looking her right in the face..
She used hot sauce after that. Still didn't work.
