i think they didn't go with xbox 1, xbox 2, xbox 3.... because of the playstation.
xbox would have always been behind sony even if it only had been on a subconscious level.
ps2-xbox, ps3-xbox2, ps4-xbox3, ps5-xbox4.
so it makes sense to go a different direction with the naming.
