Last year here in Michigan we were hit with some of the worst winter storms I've seen in my adult life, and it lasted for like a whole week. It took me over an hour to get to work, due to how slow the car goes over roads filled with PURE UNPLOWED SNOW and a moment when my car started sliding SIDEWAYS down a steep street on solid ice. But, we were all still expected to make it into the office and I made it on time, everyday.

Followed by sitting at my desk doing nothing because all of our customers were closed due to the weather. And then "Hey uh, the weather's kinda bad so you guys can leave at noon if you want."

You know what? Fuck you.

My ability to work from home when I want is like 60% of the reason I haven't left my job yet

When I was in high school I worked at a Krogers in the Houston area. A lot of us highschoolers worked there. The store had a real hard ass policy that you couldn't call up and get your schedule, but had to drive up to the store to get it. One day one of the highschoolers who worked there had to drive up to the store to get her schedule in a severe thunder storm, and on her way there she got in a car wreck and died.

If they would have just given her her schedule over the phone, she'd still be alive. Poor girl had her whole life ahead of her, but the store was more concerned with saving the half a minute of time it would take for people to call in a get their schedule, or to make the schedules in far enough advance to where people would be able to know what they worked before the day prior to the new week beginning.
