He did work in signals. so working on telegraph poles and radios and such. Before being transferred to work on training films and writing/illustrating Field Manuals. Apparently his official position then was 'Playwright' which has to be one of the Rarer Army jobs out there.

Not entirely correct. Stan worked in comics before he served in WW2. His uncle Martin Goodman owned what eventually became Marvel Comics.

Stan basically started out as the office helper but was able to help out a bit with writing and editing comics before he went off to war. That’s partly why he got to be classified as a “playwright” during his military service.

When he came back the comics business started to decline. So he got hired back and became a writer/editor fairly quickly. And from there he worked within the peaks and valleys of the late 40s/50s comics scene. Eventually helping set off the Marvel age of comics.
