When I just moved to London I was caught by surprise because I have never celebrated Halloween and we were in a flatpartment. So someone buzzes the door and this cute voice says "treat or trick, treat or trick, give me something good to eat" and I'm like "Oh, no! I'm sorry I forgot to buy any candy."
Cute little girl voice on buzzer: "It's OK, you can give me money." and I hear the mom gasps in horror and tells her off in the background. When I went down with a few coins she couldn't stop apologizing, but I just found it hilarious.
BUT THE PARENTS ASKING FOR MONEY? Oh nononononono.

The trick is to leave out an empty bowl with a sign that says "take one please :)"
