I've been told hearing is the last sense to go before someone passes. If so, she very well could have heard him. My dad was able to visit his mother in the hospital hours before she passed. She was unresponsive, but he sang her favorite songs to her and said he saw a tear fall along her cheek. I hope it's true.

Oh look it's Call Mom o'clock

My mom was in a coma after a very long battle with cancer. I talked to her for 3 days straight. During one of my sobbing bouts, she tilted her head a bit towards me and slurred, “oh, honey” in such a sad voice and tried to raise her arms, as if to hug me.

I stopped and rushed to her side. It was the first time she’d responded to me in days. She never spoke again after that, or made any indication that she could hear me. But after that I was convinced that she’d heard me the whole time and I didn’t stop talking until she died two days later.
