Donald Trump's Approval Rating Is Six Points Lower Than Support for His Impeachment: Poll

President Donald Trump's approval rating is six points lower than support for his impeachment, according to a new poll, following a sudden shift in opinion among voters about removing him from office.

The Quinnipiac University National Poll found that 41 percent of voting Americans approve of the way Trump is handling the presidency against 53 percent who disapprove.

And 47 percent of voters think Trump should be impeached and removed from office. The figure is the same for those who think he should not. However, this is a ten point movement on both in just five days.

The most recent poll was conducted on September 30. Five days earlier, another Quinnipiac poll showed support for Trump's impeachment at 37 percent and opposition at 57 percent, suggesting the Ukraine-Biden affair is shifting the dial among voters.

"While voters overall are split on the question, there's less hesitancy over the impeachment inquiry itself as more than half of voters approve of it," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Mary Snow in a release.

Moreover, 52 percent of voters approve of the Democrats' impeachment inquiry into Trump, against 45 percent who disapproved.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced last week that the six committee investigations into Trump would be folded under a formal impeachment inquiry in the wake of the president's conduct towards Ukraine.

And 50 percent of those polled by Quinnipiac said they believed Trump had done something wrong in his interactions with Ukraine's President Zelensky against 40 percent who did not think he had.

"Despite the fact that the impeachment inquiry is just getting underway, half of American voters already believe that President Trump has done something wrong when it comes to his interactions with Ukraine's leader," Snow said. "Of that group, there's a virtually unanimous view he did something seriously wrong."

A transcript of a July phone call between Trump and Zelensky shows the U.S. president urged his counterpart to open a corruption investigation into former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden, who was on the board of a Ukrainian gas company.

The elder Biden is one of the leading candidates in the Democratic Party's 2020 race for the presidential nomination. Polling suggests he would defeat Trump if selected as the nominee.

This, the president's critics say, is evidence of Trump attempting to solicit intervention from a foreign government in the 2020 election and is an impeachable offense. Trump denies any wrongdoing, and even suggested his removal from office could lead to civil war.
