The square root of 4 is only 2. It is defined, that the square root of an number is alwasy non-negative. But when you have the equation x2 =4, then x is 2 and -2.
I found out about negative numbers in 2nd grade because of the calculator I had. When I brought it up to the teacher she yelled at me and said that there was no such thing, and tried to like, unlearn the concept of negative numbers for me.
