Even as someone with quite a few democratic socialist views this post is... a bit much of an oversimplification.

Democratic socialism generally works in certain Nordic countries because of countless factors within the country’s society and general structure that allows it to work; you can’t just copy+paste one country’s laws into an entirely different one and expect the same results.

Prisons don’t work when privatized, particularly not in the states. Our healthcare system is at a point where we claim to be first world yet our citizens have to Uber to the hospital in fear of going utterly broke. There are things we HAVE to fix, must fix if we plan on continuing as a nation, but again, copy+pasting “democratic socialism” from another country would be like saying India should operate identically to Iceland.

As a citizen of Iceland i can attest that i don't want to live anywhere else unless i'll get too tired of the shitty weather. I like the society as a whole but we do have some problems that many other countries are dealing with, namely poor wealth distribution (which almost every country is dealing with to a certain extent) and the current housing crisis which many other western countries seem to be dealing with as well.

But both problems are being worked on as we speak albeit slowly. But the thing i like the most about my society is the level of safety in general. You can walk out at night no matter what the time and not even think about being unsafe . I think it's down to most people having equal opportunity to the right to earn a proper living. It's been shown that if you force people to work for substandard wages for the current economy people will very often turn to crime to supplement their income because they think society has failed them and they have no other means of making a living.
