We can’t even access the “settings” on college computers

My kid's school provides laptops (but we have to pay a fee, and there is no BYOD alternative), and you can't even right click the on the desktop. You also can't lock the computer (even when it sleeps), so the only option is to shutdown to secure your laptop.

Oh, and they configure the laptop to connect to a school printer that charges by the page and you can't connect your own printer. Even Google CloudPrint doesn't work.

In my friends school, every kid had to buy an iPad Air 2 which at the time cost €700. The school contributed nothing while forcing the kids to hand them over for the school to put horrible restrictions and tracking apps on each of them. Tracking what websites and apps they used. Blocking games and locking the ipad after a certain amount of screen-on time per day. I think they stopped that after the GDPR laws in Europe started. But it was horrible.
