I totally did that too. Somehow I even learned to scan ahead in preparation while I’m reading so nothing can trip me up when I get to it.

I had a pretty good accent in my national language and one of the teacher would force me to recite all of the reading in her time.
I hated that because what she doesn't know is that I spent nights practicing in fear of getting one word wrong and being reprimanded by her.
I didn't go in national debates because of the anxiety and fear I developed from that.

The worst was when a teacher tells a kid to read a little longer or shorter and throws off what you thought would be your assigned paragraph
