Regardless if you’re a Star Wars or a shooter fan or not, chances are you’ve heard of the big Star Wars Battlefront 2 loot box controversy in 2017. It was so big that not reports came in that Disney, who owns the Star Wars IP, even threatened to pull the plug with its EA partnership due to how out of hand it’s gotten.

While players might not have liked what EA had planned for the game, even the studio who developed Battlefront 2 felt the backlash. DICE Design Director of Star Wars Battlefront 2 Dennis Brannvall says that due to the Battlefront 2 loot box controversy, the studio hit “rock bottom” in terms of player sentiment.

We hit rock bottom in terms of player sentiment but now it’s climbing every month. We’re delivering more content this year than we did in the first year, which is also a sign of a healthy game. The community’s happier than it’s ever been, especially with the big announcement yesterday. I think we had to take a step back, the team had to look at itself in the mirror a little bit, pick ourselves up from a really rough Christmas for everyone and then just get back to work. – Dennis Brannvall (DICE Design Director)

Let’s hope this is a lesson for both EA and DICE, and that it won’t happen again.

In other Battlefront 2 news, DICE has been superb in adding content to it post-launch even after two years of being out. You can check out the updated roadmap for 2019 right here. We also posted gameplay of the upcoming PvE mode, which you ought to watch, too.

Considering the poor state of BF5 and the anger on the subreddit, DICE hasn't really moved that far in terms of hitting rock bottom.

IF BF2 was rock bottom then they like just hanging out down there with their handling of BFV so far.

I just want another modern battlefield title with big maps and high ticket servers to play all day on
