A few weeks ago, I made it out to Glacier National Park for the first time. I've never really had the chance to shoot wildflowers before, so I made it my goal to come to glacier right during the peak of the wildflower bloom. Luckily, I made it right on time to see the end of the beargrass (seen here) bloom and the rest of the flowers begin to poke out of the ground.

This photo was taken on my second night in the park, a while after the sun went down. Being so far north, sunset is all the way at 9:30PM - this photo was taken around 11pm. Although the brightness is helped by the long exposure with the camera, it was still incredibly bright out for how late in the night it was compared to what I'm used to.

I spent my entire night shooting this composition as the light faded from the peaks, starting right around sunset. This was the final picture I took of the night. On location, I was displeased with the fact that the clouds were starting to come over the horizon - usually for night photography I prefer clear skies.

Looking back, however, the fast moving clouds are one of my favorite parts of this photo and I'm glad they're there.

I spend a ton of time around the national parks and other public land doing my best to document the places that we, as a country, have decided to protect. If you want to check out some of my work online, my website is morgantuohy.com and some other work can be found on instagram at @morgan.tuohy!

Shot details for the camera nerds (like me!)

Shot on sony a7iii with 16-35GM lens

This is a shot comprised of 2 photos, one (the main one) for the mountains and stars long after the sun went down, and one for the flowers shortly after the sun went down. This was to have a short enough exposure so the flowers are (somewhat) sharp, something not possible in the longer exposure later in the night.

Mountains/sky: ISO100, 16mm, f4.0, 30s

Flowers: ISO3200, 16mm, f/10, 1/20s

Looking back, I probably would have opened the aperture to f/8 for the flowers and changed my exposure time to 1/40s. There is still some motion blur in the flowers I wish wasn't there.

Mountain/sky file was double processed in LR and merged in PS with the flower exposure. Adjustments made & dodging and burning added to accentuate certain elements to make it accurately feel like I did standing on site :)

Will be around for a bit and happy to answer any questions!
