As someone who has had a permit to carry for the past 10 years, the two different instructors I've had (first permit, and then renewal class) have always said if you are in a situation like this, the gun is a last resort. Run away, leave any way possible, get out if you can. Do not engage unless you absolutely have to. You bet your ass that I am getting my family and I out of there if I can. I am not risking my life to try and take down someone under that type of pressure.

He still killed 9 people and wounded about 2 dozen more.

The GOP will blame Hollywood and video games for how they depict violence but buy into the idea that every average schlub with a gun will turn into John McClain. Reality is that the average and above average person with a gun in these settings would panic and take down a lot of innocent good guys. Figure people in the military die from friendly fire a lot and they are trained
