My daughter dresses in oversized hoodies with shorts and it looks like she's walking around without pants.
There's no way I can continue letting her walk around committing a fashion faux pas from the 80s which were the least fashionable period in human history.
In all seriousness I feel like this kind of thing is always taken to the extreme. Some people would think "omg they're trans! We need to dig deeper!" while others would think "omg they're a little fuckin' pansy-ass wtf no take it off now."
I remember trying my mom's clothes on as a kid while she got ready for the day. Scarves, dresses, heels, bras, stockings, literally whatever I thought looked fun at the time. I thought it was fun. Hell, you could make a case claiming that I was even experimenting with gender roles in a developmental way since kids do understand gender to some extent at an early age.
But still, no one made a fuss about it. Both parents were happy to let me be a kid and have some autonomy regarding what entertained me. Army guys? Have at it. Sister's baby dolls? Have a blast. Army guys clearing out the doll house? Sounds fun. Barbies cruising around in a humvee? How creative.
I turned out just fine, and if I had turned out to be trans, that would've been just fine too.
But God dammit. I feel like parents today (both conservative or liberal) feel a duty to usher their kids into one lifestyle or another. Of course your job is to teach, guide, and hold their hand when it's needed, but beyond preparing them to be decent human beings who are prepared to participate in society as adults it just seems so much better to let them figure it out themselves.
I know it's a meme and all but I think about this a lot. Just felt like a relevant place to say my piece.
