The entire popular landscape changed like this between 1968 and 1972. It was the last mass-cultural change that we’ve had, in fact. Just look at the Brady Bunch. When it started they were all squares and by the time it ended it was all bell-bottoms and soft-hippie vibes.
I knew very little about Vietnam. I've recently been researching it and I'm shocked at how afterwards it was seemingly encouraged not to talk about it. All those young men going away and coming back broken is awful.
