This probably seems like a really stupid question but I'm seriously not sure. Is an engineer (especially mechanical as opposed to biological) considered a scientist?
Having a degree in mechanical engineering did not make one a scientist. I have an engineering degree and I'm not a scientist. Having a doctor's degree also doesn't automatically make you a scientist. Having a degree isn't even required to be a scientist; tons of scientists with serious discoveries to their name never had a degree.

I’m an EE and don’t consider myself a scientist. I don’t science. I’m an engineer. I engine.
