I'm more confused by the fact that the comments imply some countries might not have triage, but go based on order of arrival, which sounds preposterous to me? Does anyone here know of such a country?

Canadian 911 dispatcher here. Of course no system is perfect, but the reason there’s long waits is because of every Tom, Dick, and Harry thinks their diarrhea/ankle sprain/toothache is the kind of problem that requires an emergency room. It’s overloaded with people like this who all think they’re priority number one.

We live in a weird time now where people expect immediate treatment for everything and are outraged when they don’t get it. Learn the reasons you need to go to the ER (and need an ambulance for that matter), otherwise go to a walk-in clinic or your family doctor - you’ll get the exact same treatment there.
