Whenever I tell people my cat has renal disease and it makes me sad that he's dying, I hate when people tell me "he's just a cat, you can get another one."
He's been the only constant in my life for 18 years.
When I took my boy to the vet that day because I noticed he'd been having trouble jumping on the bed and his breathing sounded wheezy, I had no idea he wouldn't be coming home with me. I had just bought a new carrier.

I have never cried so much.
