See, this is the limit of cinematic universes. When they made the first iron man, they probably had no idea that they would be making a captain marvel movie at some point.
The truth of the matter is, is that there were other major threats in the galaxy.
While Thanos was still a threat before Infinity War, he only searching for the stones.
Him destroying Xandar, killing the Asguardians, going to Earth, etc etc. It was all in a relatively small amount of time. All of which Captain Marvel was unaware of (until the Snap happened).
Like the Guardians didn't even know Xandar was destroyed until Thor told them. Doctor Stange, despite saying he watches out for all universal threats, didn't know who Thanos was.
Captain Marvel being busy or not knowing isn't a problem when others are in the same situation.
