Avoid black henna as it frequently contains a synthetic dye that does just this or worse.

PSA: The NHS in the UK say NEVER get black henna tattoos. Don't let your children, friends or family get one. Sorry you learned the hard way :( my cousin was scarred for life on her back by one.

Edit: Even if you are thinking- cool scarification method! You potentially set yourself up for life long sensitivity and allergy (even severe anaphylactic type reaction allergy) to pigments used in other things such as common hair dye.
