I've read books and a lot of them have whacky stuff in them that ain't deep. Bukowski wrote in Women that the main character was with a woman and she said her vagina was for her husband so he coated his weiner in vasoline and put it in her butt.
I never believe "somebody said" something...it's usually just that person saying something they believe, but don't want the backlash that follows after sparking a flame they can't put out.
This is like when a first year philosophy student moves from Aristotle to Descartes to Hume and then back to Aristotle and then to Hobbes, Locke, and Spinoza and then Berkeley and towards the end of the semester discovers Ayn Rand and sells their parents into slavery.
