I remember thinking one day that "hey a normal pencil is basically a black colour pencil" and god was that an abysmal lapse in judgement.

Then you sharpen the black colored pencil and then it does the thing where it looks fine and then just the slightest bit of pressure makes the lead fall out

and the ratio in the bucket was usually something like:
50% white colored pencils
20% those shitty colorart knockoff pencils
10% orange/yellow
10% green/blue, but never the shade you needed
6% skin tones
3.9% regular pencils that somehow got mixed in
.1% black colored pencils, all one millimeter long
edit: added blue because obviously coloring in the sky is 99% of the art experience
