That would have been SOOOO nice. My grandparents started charging me rent when I was 16 and had to live with them because my mom was in the hospital long term. I paid them rent until I was 18. And since they charged me literally 3/4 of what I made every month, it made it virtually impossible to save up for when it was time to move out.
My dad has me convinced that I would need to buy my own first car, so I saved like 70% of every paycheck for a couple of years so I could get a decent used one. For Christmas when I was 17, he bought me a used red VW Beetle and told me that I could put my saved cash into an account to use at college. Pretty baller move.
