For those of you that may not know - Agent Orange was a chemical used by the US Army starting around the time of Operation Rolling Thunder and throughout Operation Ranch Hand. The chemical was designed to kill foliage and the US’ goal in using the chemical was to create a wasteland so that they could better spot Vietcong in the dense jungle.

Edit: Everything past here is my opinion, so if you have no interest don’t feel obliged to read it.

After three hours of this comment being up and after reading several people’s replies to my comment I wanted to give my own response to what I’ve seen commonly. So without further delay -

Yes, people in Vietnam and the US are still affected by Agent Orange, and No! Nothing of meaningful value is going to be done about it. Maybe we will see the US Government pay Vietnam or maybe we will see ‘hopes and prayers,’ but it isn’t very likely. It is sad, similar things have happened before Operation Rolling Thunder, similar things have happened after, and I’m positive similar things will happen in the future. My own friend was born in Vietnam and was adopted by a family in the US and she also isn’t well.

This is what happens in a world ruled by people unfit to rule. I’m not saying that all of the leaders of that time were bad leaders, but I’m definitely not saying they were the best.

(In my personal opinion an example of someone who is fit to rule would be a person who employs the scientific method and who doesn’t subscribe to any dogma, especially religious.)

But it doesn’t matter what is right and what is wrong, it only matters what is. So I encourage all of you to be closer to a fit ruler, be an individual, don’t be a sheep, don’t follow the herd, and be you. If you can’t that is okay...maybe we can just choose leaders that don’t rely on the standard similarities of past presidents.

I ask you all to reflect on what the US is doing right now in the War On Terror. To me it seems awfully similar to the Vietnam War, the US is fighting in a war that isn’t their business and in correspondence with that things got worse. So I ask you all; Do you think that the great USA should be bringing their military might to lands that don’t ask for it?

That was a fairly brutal twitter thread throughout.

My great uncle was also exposed. He has nerve damage and his health is deteriorating fast. He’s always in pain and can barely walk. It makes me sad knowing how many people are going through the same situation.
