My favorite part was “ Gamers meet in real life ”

Last year one of my friends from work passed away after contracting sepsis after an operation... at the day of the funeral loads of people from his raiding guild in WoW attended and those who couldn't make it watched the funeral in a live stream!

Obviously, it would have been better if the funeral never had to happen in the first place, but I thought the service was very nice! It was a good send off

When I was growing up I played a browser based game and we used VOIP. Over the years me and a group of 4 others became pretty good friends. We played for like 5 or 6 years until the game died.

Afterwards we still played other games together, a few of us had met up with each other. But then one day one of our buddies informed us he had cancer, eventually this cancer became terminal.

We all agreed we had to meet up, and soon before his condition got worse. We all meet up and had a great time together. Some of us had to take international flights.

We all agreed we would be there for his funeral.

A 5 months passed, and our friend passed away. We all dropped what we were doing and flew in to see his funeral which was in Ohio.

I flew in from Germany Another friend flew in from the UK Another friend flew in from California And another friend drove from Michigan to Ohio.

We all attended the funeral (this was about 10 years ago) and at the funeral we made a pact, that every 2 years we would meet up somewhere in the world. Our next meet up will be in 2020.

Our wives and girlfriends think its weird as fuck but so what. Last year a friend said he couldn't make it cause he didn't have the money. The 3 of us got together and said "Fuck that shit, we are buying you a ticket" and we all pooled our money together to get him in on the meet up"
