This sort of reminds me of Aron Ralston (the guy who had to cut his arm off as seen in the film 127 hours). He is a seasoned outdoors-man but let his ego nearly cost him his life. Not only was he alone but he didn't even let anyone know where he was going.
Genuinely asking...Would bringing a whistle on hikes be a good idea? Especially in really dense areas like that? Could that have been a difference maker in her situation? I live in Palm Springs and hike occasionally. If a 2 dollar whistle can be a game changer, I’m buying one tomorrow.
