Game of Thrones has a strong correlation with progressive voters, whereas the defining TV shows of Republican areas is Reality TV & ideological stuff like 16 & Pregnant and Duck Dynasty.
Progressive voters are far more easily spooked away from voting by any hint of something untoward (see Comey's fluff letter about Clinton's emails tanking her polling in the week before the elections, too close for most pollsters to notice, though Nate Silver's fivethirtyeight did), compared to how conservatives show up to vote for 'R' no matter what (regardless of boasting about grab her by the pussy or being on their third wife claiming the be the party of family values or having gotten abortions etc).
