Also, if I remember correctly from the last time I saw this, only the larva stage has them, when it reaches the adult stage they lose them.

Edit: When I first posted this, I was too lazy to do the research to confirm my suspicions, mostly because I never expected this to take off. Here's a neat little article about them.
