Just FYI, we don't have the capability as a species to destroy the earth. It is way too massive and will continue spinning and orbiting the sun regardless of what we do while we're here.
We can however very readily and easily, as a species, destroy our ability to survive here, and at the same time make it very difficult for other complex life to survive as well. It's a bit semantic at a personal level, but at a solar system level, it's very different.
