‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ Enlists Danny Trejo to Voice Boots the Monkey; Trailer Drops Saturday, March 23rd

The upcoming ‘Dora the Explorer’ feature film adaptation titled ‘Dora and the Lost City of Gold’ has Danny Trejo onboard to voice Boots the Monkey. He made the reveal himself on Twitter.

Check out the announcement and new poster below!

The rumors are true, I finally can tell you I am a monkey…Boots!!! Don’t miss the @DoraMovie trailer this Saturday 3/23, debuting live during the @Nickelodeon Kid’s Choice Awards! #DoraMovie pic.twitter.com/gr5rq0xRYp — Danny Trejo (@officialDannyT) March 21, 2019

Trejo is popular thanks to his frequent collaborations with writer-director Robert Rodriguez. He’s been part of the ‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ franchise, the ‘Machete’ films, and the ‘Spy Kids’ franchise. He was recently in CW’s ‘The Flash,’ DC Universe’s ‘Young Justice Outsiders,’ and Disney Channel’s ‘Tangled: The Series.’ Next, he will be in Rob Zombie’s trilogy ender ‘3 from Hell,’ and (eventually) reprise his role as the titular character in Rodriguez’ ‘Machete Kills in Space.’

Moreover, Isabela Moner (‘Sicario: Day of the Soldano,’ ‘Instant Family’) plays the titular character.

“Having spent most of her life exploring the jungle with her parents nothing could prepare Dora (Moner) for the most dangerous adventure ever – High School. Always the explorer, Dora quickly finds herself leading Boots (her best friend, a monkey), Diego, and a rag tag group of teens on an adventure to save her parents and solve the impossible mystery behind a lost Inca civilization.”

The rest of the cast comprises of Jeffrey Wahlberg, Eugenio Derbez, Michael Peña, Eva Longoria, Temuera Morrison, and Benicio del Toro.

Further, serving as director is James Bobin (‘Flight of the Conchords,’ ‘Alice Through the Looking Glass’). Nicholas Stoller (‘Storks,’ ‘Captain Underpants’) is reuniting with Bobin for the screenplay. Danielle Sanchez-Witzel (‘My Name Is Earl,’ ‘New Girl’) co-wrote the script. Stoller co-wrote ‘The Muppets’ and ‘Muppets: Most Wanted,’ while Bobin was the director of both, and co-writer of the latter.

Also, the very first trailer will premiere at the Kids’ Choice Awards 2019, on Saturday, March 23, at 8:00 p.m. (ET/PT).

Paramount will release the film on August 2nd.
